My Favorite Irish Spots

St. Patrick’s Day 2023 in Charlotte, North Carolina: Jim and I plan to go out for a Guinness somewhere today, maybe to Workman’s Friend in the Plaza Midwood neighborhood, by far one of our favorite Irish pubs in Charlotte, but otherwise it will be fairly uneventful.

This day has me reflecting back on some of the more memorable Irish spots I’ve visited in places I’ve lived or have traveled to along the way –

Dublin, Ireland

During a TBEX conference based in Dublin in 2013, our opening night event was hosted at the Guinness Brewery and we learned how to properly pour a Guinness. Another memorable night was hanging out at The Temple Bar with friends I met at the conference, a bar that’s been around since 1840 or so!

New York City, NY

Light and Dark Beers at McSorley’s Olde Ale House, East Village, Manhattan

I lived in the New York City area for approximately 10 years, and have lots of memorable Irish pub experiences during my time there. A few of my favorites are:

New Orleans, Louisiana

While living in New Orleans from early 2019 through February of 2022, I regularly frequented these Irish bars in the French Quarter, and even temporarily did a Monday day-shift bartending stint at Ryan’s Irish pub!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Time for a Guinness.
